         Technology for Genome Sequencing

Robert Nicol  Ph.D ，Broad研究中心基因组测序平台主任。该平台是人类基因组计划的主要执行者，哺乳动物和微生物基因组计划。  

Broad研究中心由麻省理工和哈佛大学于2003年成立，是高通量测序技术的摇篮和领导者，已发表高水平文章累计超过千篇。该中心主要关注生物医学的前沿领域，包括：基因功能研究和其他物种的功能进化研究；基因-基因间互作和生物分子通路研究; 遗传疾病的分子基础研究；癌症突变研究；传染性疾病分子机制研究；个性化医疗与药物开发。

The Broad Institute was founded in 2003 and launched in 2004 through the extraordinary generosity and remarkable vision of Los Angeles-based philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad. The Broads recognized earlier than almost anyone else the inherent promise of genomics to change medicine, and they saw the need to empower scientists to work together to realize that promise. Their founding gift was intended to provide the resources necessary to allow the institute ten years to build and prove a new, collaborative model of science focused on transforming medicine. The Boston area’s pre-eminent biomedical research organizations — Harvard University and its affiliated hospitals, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology — shared the Broads’ vision and joined together with them as the founding partners of the Broad Institute. On September 4, 2008 , Eli and Edythe Broad announced that they would endow the Broad Institute with an unprecedented $400 million dollar gift in addition to the $200 million already pledged, assuring the permanent status of the young organization. On July 1, 2009, the Broad Institute became a fully realized nonprofit research organization. The Broad Institute is committed to meeting the most critical challenges in biology and medicine. Broad scientists pursue a wide variety of projects that cut across scientific disciplines and institutions.
