Clathrin consists of three heavy chains (192kD) and three light chains (LCa or LCb, 25-29kD) and self-assemblyes into a polyhedral cytoskeletal element. Self-assembly facilitates clathrin's central role in membrane sorting and selective transport within the cell. Monoclonal antibody CON.1 reacts with clathrin light chains (CLC) LCa and LCb. It was raised against a peptide derived from bovine clathrin light chain corresponding to the conserved region of the light chains; residues 23-44. |
